Review: Vocal Consort Musical Palette

Went for Shi Yun's Vocal Consort concert on friday. FYI, it was the vocal consort concert NOT MJC choir concert. i know i said my junior's concert but doesn't mean mj choir. the choir was there though. joy was taking attendance. woah. never knew that the choir is desperate enough to take attendance during a concert. btw, shi yun cheated me. if i bought the tickets from mj choir, i pay only $6. but i bought it from VC and it cost $15. :( never mind. i enjoyed the concert and the chance to catch up with zaidah and jasmine.

met them at city hall to go vch. supposed to meet them earlier for dinner but since they were hungry, they ate first and i met them later. by the time we arrived at vch, the bell was already ringing to call the audience in. we saw kok yong, the jumping guy. he was waiting for pei ying but he looked so excited, as usual. anway, the hall was almost full so we took circle seats. not too bad except that we were surrounded by choirs from other schools. joy said mj choir was sitting downstairs. i thought i saw one of my sac juniors. don't remember her name. only know that she's really cute, sings really well and took part in the sac talentime when i was still around.

vocal consort had 2 guest choirs, commonwealth sec and NTU choir. so some songs they sang together, some songs seperate. vc was so small. about the size of mj 1st 3 months choir. but really powerful. i could hear that solo guy singing even though i'm sitting so far away. without mic. the stage looks so small too. how did we manage to squeeze the whole choir in last year for 'trial by jury'?

anyway, moving on. i liked the song 'one small child'. wonder if church choir can sing it for christmas this year. such a cool song. the french song 'j'entends le moulin' was very interesting too. the pianist is so fantastic. the piano part sounded and looked so complicated and he was playing it without score. woah. i'm getting shi yun to lend me the scores. vc also sang beatles songs. they changed out of the formal gowns and suits and wore jeans, shirt and cartoon ties. the audience got so excited, they couldn't stop screaming. the mc was trying to introduce the songs but he couldn't get himself heard over the screaming so he gave up saying "oh well, you obviously know the songs". haha! i finally managed to record 'stopping by woods'. love that song ever since i first heard the male chorus sing it. pity they didn't sing 'hear the music' though. beautiful song.

mr kwei conducted vc. he still acts the same. i was saying that when he was conducting the beatles songs, he should change into something more informal. match the choir lah. but he didn't. then, vc presented him with this huge bouquet of flowers. yells of "encore! encore!". so he one hand hugging the bouquet, the other hand conducting. like he was dancing with the flowers. then he made vc hold the last not damn long until they were all making 'cannot breathe!' actions. so bad he. sadist. typical kwei. muahahaha!

mr yong conducted the ntu choir. at first he looked the same skinny, gangly guy. the audience started laughing when he came up, adjust the conductor's stand, moved the stand to the side of the stage(he didn't use it), walk back to centre, walk back to adjust the stand again, walk back to the choir. the choir was off-centre but he didn't seem to notice. weird. it was obvious they were off centre. they were all kinda aligned to stage left. aiyo. then at the end, they gave him flowers also, he was blushing so hard, we could see from where we were sitting. aiyo! didn't see him blush so much since we teased him about his 'girlfriend' when his handphone rang during choir. *sigh* miss mr yong.

well, jasmine, zaidah and i bought toy flowers for shi yun and jeffrey. heard jeffrey wondering what he's supposed to do with all those flowers and someone told him to recycle them for valentine's day. so cheapskate! guys. *shakes head* we hung around vch for almost half hour after the concert cos zaidah had to stop every few steps to say hi to someone. then outside vch, we ran into mj choir. they're having la risonanza 2 on 26 may. they're singing abba! lucky things. anyway, it took forever to drag zaidah away. she kept hugging and 'bye-bye'ing to everyone. when we thought she was done, she moved to the next group and did the whole routine over again. haiz.

when we FINALLY got to the mrt station, we couldn't get onto the train. twice. some morons refused to move in so the entrance was jammed. so we decided to go to raffles place and change train there. saw andrew quek and an unknown guy. that unknown guy was showing off kung fu moves and andrew quek was singing. on the mrt platform. gosh. at first we didn't notice him cos there was this other guy juggling that attracted our attention. then (let me try the conversation thing)
zaidah(indicating andrew quek): do we know that guy?
me: i think it's andrew quek. don't know about the other guy. not our sch.
zaidah: ya i think so too. jas, is that andrew quek?
jasmine: he juggle very well.
dotz! LOL! wrong frequency gal!! but yes, the guy did juggle very well.

andrew quek and friend didn't board the train. wonder why. saw shao chun at raffles place. that guy was stoning and didn't notice us despite the fact that we were trying so hard to get his attention, short of going over and saying hi. zaidah msged him on the train. he said too crowded now and he'll look for us after the crowd clears. that guy ah. by the time the crowd clears, we would all have alighted so no point.
